We spent a few hours praying together about how to rightfully sing a song about the heart of God, which could be done in thousands of different ways. His heart is so vast and so complex that any attempt to summarize this experience in one song seemed overwhelming to us. However, in a sheer moment of silent prayer as we were gathered at a family’s home during our songwriting sessions, the image of the Father’s welcoming embrace of the prodigal son came to mind. It may not be everything God’s heart is, but it sure comes close to it. We can’t describe nor define the heart of God in a song. But we can definitely paint the picture of this powerful experience.
